Responsibilities of the Coach and Team Manager

Coach

  • There are opportunities to attend community courses to develop your coaching skills to help with training and or gameday coaching. This is paid for by the club and is highly encouraged. Please keep an eye on the Macarthur Course Calendar for the latest information.

  • Make sure you have been added to the WhatsApp group for coaches and managers to stay up to date with the latest developments.

  • Plan, prepare, deliver, and review training sessions throughout the season.

  • Ensure all training sessions meet the needs of all participants.

  • Carry out an age-appropriate warm-up with the players before the game.

  • Ensure all participants are given equal opportunity to play

  • Manage game-day player rotations.

  • Consistently emphasise enjoyment and involvement rather than winning and competition.

  • Manage parent’s expectations and promote supportive and positive behaviours.

  • If coaching ages U6 and U7 then you are permitted to coach on the field with your players. Ages U8 and above are coached from the sidelines.

  • Choose a player of the match at the end of each game and award them the trophy and certificate provided by the club.  Make sure a photo is taken of the player and provided with their name on the Coaches and Managers WhatsApp group.

  • Decide with the Team Manager who will write a game summary on the club's Facebook page.

Team Manager

  • Ensure contacts are up to date on WhatsApp team group.

  • Make sure you have been added to the WhatsApp group for coaches and managers.

  • Organise volunteers from your team for your nominated home game duty rosters e.g. canteen, field set up and field pack up

  • Distribute/collect paperwork required from parents/guardians, for example, photo request forms, checking correct spelling for team photos, collecting votes for end-of-season “player’s player” award etc.

  • Send out a reminder to the team on WhatsApp of the time and location of the game that week.

  • Complete the “Match Card” at each game with each player's name and FFA number and sign as team manager.

  • With the coach decide how to rotate the players on the bench and how much time they will be there (based on how many players have turned up and injuries). It’s recommended that the team manager communicate the change over time of the players to the coach so that the coach can focus on the players on the field.

  • Gear Bag with shirts/strips and competition balls to each game.

  • Decide with the Team Manager who will write a game summary on the club's Facebook page.
